Operating across Kwinana, Henderson (AMC), Welshpool and Malaga, we regularly deliver 10-year inspections for bridge and gantry cranes. On this recent Perth project, our team completed a full 10-year program on an overhead crane to keep production moving safely and in line with Australian Standards.

Why 10-Year Inspections Matter

Under the AS 2550 series (including AS 2550.1 and AS 2550.3) and the AS 1418 series for bridge/gantry cranes, a 10-year inspection is a milestone activity that validates condition, verifies integrity and resets confidence for the next duty cycle. It’s also the best opportunity to plan any targeted overhaul work.

What We Did on This Perth Project

• Visual inspection & detailed reporting: Structural members, end carriages, crab/trolley, hooks, wheels and runway interfaces.

• Alignment remediation: Checked crane skew, end-carriage squareness and runway interface; completed adjustments to reduce wheel flange wear and improve travel performance.

• NDT on critical areas: MPI/UT on hook throat, load path welds, trolley frame and end-carriage weldments; crack checks at high-stress transitions.

• Oil sampling & diagnostics: Hoist gearbox and (where fitted) travel gearboxes—checking contamination, viscosity and wear metals to inform overhaul scope.

• Function & protection: Brakes, limits, overload protection, pendant/radio, controls and emergency systems verified and rectified.

• Service & overhaul items: Bearings, seals, brakes, rope/chain inspection and replacements as required; fastener torque checks; electrical terminations and conductor systems.

• Documentation for compliance: Traceable reporting aligned with AS 2550.3 and client maintenance records, including DWP considerations.

Outcomes & Compliance

The crane returned to service with improved tracking, reduced noise and smoother travel, and a clear condition baseline for the next decade. All remediation work and test results were documented to support audit, insurance and regulator expectations.
