🚧 Crane Rectification – Turning Problems into Long-Term Solutions 🚧
When we were called to inspect a crane at Rio Tinto’s West Angelas site, it had failed to pass commissioning due to design-related issues.
The main fault?
🔹 Axle bolts that were too short, preventing full thread engagement with the lock nuts.
Our solution:
✅ Fabricated and fitted new, longer axle bolts to meet safe engineering standards.
✅ Conducted functional testing – wheels spun freely, long travel movement smooth and even.
But the challenge didn’t stop there…
The crane was built inside a container, making access for repairs extremely limited. Before we could even get to the bolts, we had to alter the container structure to reach the crane safely.
The upside? This modification now allows future maintenance to be carried out more easily – a future-proofing win for the asset’s lifecycle.
While we didn’t design the crane, we made sure it was commission-ready and that future serviceability was no longer an afterthought.
