Course Overview

This Pre-Start Crane Inspection Training is designed specifically for crane operators, supervisors, and site personnel responsible for ensuring equipment is safe prior to use.

Unlike full inspector training, this course focuses on practical, pre-operational safety checks aligned with Australian Standards and workplace requirements.

Under Australian safety obligations, cranes must be inspected regularly and verified safe before operation by a competent person.

Pre-Operational Inspection Requirements

  • Wire ropes, chains and hooks

  • Limit switches and safety devices

  • Brakes and hoist functionality

  • Electrical controls and pendant / remote systems

  • Structural condition (visual checks only)

Defect Identification & Reporting

  • Recognising critical vs non-critical defects

  • When to stop and isolate equipment

  • Reporting and tagging requirements

Safe Operation Readiness

  • Verifying crane is safe to operate

  • Load test awareness (operator level only)

  • Pre-lift checks and environmental considerations
